Privacy Policy for DEADGRIND
Last updated: October 23, 2026
Who we are. DEADGRIND (the "Application" or "Service") is published by Demonfork (Leon Klostermann) ("Company", "we", "us", or "our"). This Privacy Policy applies to the DEADGRIND mobile application and to the pages we host for it on the demonfork.io domain (the "Website").
By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
- DEADGRIND has no user accounts with us. Your progress is saved on your device. The game sends data about your heroes to our server only for the optional online leaderboard, and only after you agree.
- If you signed up for the beta on our website, we store your email address and phone platform for the beta. Sign-ups are closed; we delete them at the latest 3 months after the release. You can have yours deleted at any time.
- The online leaderboard opens only after you accept our Community Rules and Terms of Use in the game. If you choose to show your heroes there, their names, modes, classes, levels, progress, head look and worn gear are stored on our server in Germany and shown to every player. You can turn this off and delete the data at any time under Settings > GAME.
- Optional rewarded ads, only when you choose to watch one, are shown through Google AdMob. Where the law requires it, Google's consent form asks you first; you can change your choice any time under Settings > GAME > AD CONSENT.
- Purchases are processed by Google Play or the Apple App Store. We never see your payment details.
- If you use Google Play Games or Apple Game Center, those services provide a player ID. Cloud save on Android is stored in your own Google account.
- We do not sell your personal data.

Collecting and Using Your Personal Data
Types of Data Collected
Personal Data. The Application does not ask for or collect your real name, email address, phone number, contacts, or precise location. It does not create a user account with us. It sends game data to our server only for the optional online leaderboard, and only after you agree in the game; it then uses a random install ID instead of an account (see Online Leaderboard). We only receive your email address if you sign up for the beta on the Website (see Beta Sign-up) or email us.
Data stored on your Device. Your savegame (characters, items, progress, settings, the hero name you choose and the signature you draw on the in-game contract) and a record of your purchases (the store's purchase token and product, so each purchase is granted exactly once and can be restored) are stored locally on your Device, together with the online leaderboard's install ID and secret key, the version of the Community Rules and Terms of Use you accepted and when, your leaderboard choice, the players you hide on the leaderboard and leaderboard updates still waiting to be sent (a fallen hero, a deletion). If you use cloud save, they are part of the savegame copy in your Google account. We cannot access this data, except the hero details you choose to show on the online leaderboard (see Online Leaderboard).
Google Play Games (Android). If you are signed in to Google Play Games, Google provides the Application with your Play Games player ID and gamer name. The Application uses them on your Device to enable cloud save and to create a short Support ID (a one-way hash of the player ID, shown in Settings) that you can include when you contact us. Cloud save stores a copy of your savegame in your own Google account through Google Play Games Saved Games; we have no access to it.
Apple Game Center (iOS). If you are signed in to Game Center, Apple provides the Application with your Game Center player ID and alias. The Application uses them on your Device only, for example to create the Support ID.
Advertising. The Application shows ads through Google AdMob (currently on Android only): only optional rewarded ads that you choose to watch for a small in-game bonus; there are no forced ads. To serve and measure ads and to prevent ad fraud, the Google Mobile Ads SDK may collect data such as your Device's advertising ID, IP address, approximate location derived from the IP address, Device and app information, ad interactions, and diagnostic data. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Google's consent form (Google User Messaging Platform) asks for your choice before personalized ads are shown; you can change it at any time under Settings > GAME > AD CONSENT. The Remove Ads purchase lets you claim those bonuses without watching an ad. We receive only aggregated reports from AdMob, never data that identifies you.
Purchases. In-app purchases are processed by Google Play or the Apple App Store under their terms. We never receive your payment card or bank details. The store provides us with transaction information needed for accounting, refunds and support (such as the order number, product, price, date and country).
Device features. Vibration and the optional "Tilt to look" setting (which reads the Device's gyroscope) work only on your Device; no sensor data leaves it.
Website and leaderboard requests. When you open this page, or when the Application loads or updates the online leaderboard (also when you only read the board), our web server processes technically necessary connection data (IP address, date and time, requested page or address, status code, amount of data transferred, and the browser, app and operating system information that is sent) to deliver the page or answer and to keep the server secure. Our DEADGRIND pages load no external fonts, scripts, trackers or cookies.
Contacting us. If you email us, we process your email address and the content of your message to answer your request.
Beta Sign-up
Before the release you could sign up for the DEADGRIND beta on demonfork.io/deadgrind. DEADGRIND is released and the sign-up is closed; this section describes the sign-ups we still hold.
- What we store: your email address, the platform you chose (Android or iOS), the time of your sign-up, that you confirmed being 18 or older and gave your consent (with the version of the consent text), a pseudonymised, keyed hash of your IP address (not the IP address itself), and the status of your sign-up. If you send us feedback, we keep your email with the feedback and the screenshots you attach. While the request is handled, the server briefly uses your IP address in memory to limit repeated sign-ups.
- Why: to send you the beta invite and emails about the beta (instructions and beta news); to add your email address as a tester in the Google Play Console (Android closed test) or in Apple App Store Connect (TestFlight), so that you can install the beta; to read your feedback and use it to improve the game; and to prevent abuse such as mass sign-ups. We do not use your address for other marketing and never sell it.
- Legal basis: your consent for the beta emails (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR); our legitimate interest in preventing abuse (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
- Where: on our own server in Germany. When your invite goes out, your email address is shared with Google (Android) or Apple (iOS) as a beta tester. We write to you through our email provider, Proton AG (Switzerland, a country with an EU adequacy decision).
- How long: at the latest 3 months after the game's release; then we delete your sign-up.
- Leaving: you can withdraw your consent and have your sign-up deleted at any time by emailing support@demonfork.io. It does not affect the lawfulness of what happened before.
Online Leaderboard
A board in the church of the game's village shows the online leaderboard: the heroes of all players who chose to show theirs, ranked by their progress (highest tier, deepest depth on that tier, then level). Before the board opens for the first time, the Application shows our Community Rules and asks you to accept them together with our Terms of Use (I AGREE); until you do, it loads nothing from the leaderboard and sends nothing to it, and if you decline, the board stays closed. When these rules change, it asks again; until you accept the new version, the Application sends no updates, and heroes you already show stay on the board unchanged. Showing your own heroes is optional. After the rules, the Application asks you once ("Show your heroes on the leaderboard?"), and it sends nothing about your heroes until you choose SHOW MY HEROES or turn on "Show my heroes on the leaderboard" under Settings > GAME (which also shows the Community Rules first while you have not accepted them). You can read the board without showing your heroes. You can change your choice at any time under Settings > GAME ("Show my heroes on the leaderboard").
- What we store: a random install ID that the Application creates instead of an account (it is not linked to your name, email address, Play Games or Game Center ID, or advertising ID) and a one-way hash of a secret key that stays on your Device (and in your cloud save, if you use it), so that only your install can change or delete its entries, and the version of the Community Rules and Terms of Use your install accepted, with the time our server first received it (the Application sends that version with every update and report). For each of your heroes: the hero name you chose, Normal or Hardcore (and whether a hardcore hero has fallen), class, level, highest tier reached, deepest depth on that tier, the head's look (head color, hair style and hair color), the swords, rings and rune the hero wears with their rolled stats, the game version, whether the entry comes from a test build, an internal character ID (so each hero has one entry), and when the entry was created and last updated. If you report another player's name, we store your install ID, the reported entry, the reason, a copy of the reported name and the time. While a request is handled, our server uses your IP address in memory only, to limit repeated requests; the leaderboard does not store it (for our web server logs, see Retention).
- Who can see it: every DEADGRIND player, and anyone who reads the public leaderboard data from our server over the internet. The list shows each hero's rank, name, Normal or Hardcore (and fallen), class, level, progress and head look; a hero's profile also shows the gear the hero wears. Your install ID and its key, the internal character ID, the game version, the time stamps and reports are never shown. If you hide a player in the game, that choice stays on your Device.
- Why: to rank the heroes and show the leaderboard and player profiles, and to keep the board fair and free of abuse: names pass an automatic word filter when they are sent (a hero whose name it rejects is neither stored nor listed), players can report a name, we check reports by hand, entries with implausible progress are hidden until we have checked them by hand, and we can hide entries or block an install that abuses the board.
- Legal basis: your consent, given in the game (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), for sending, storing and showing your heroes; our legitimate interest in a fair leaderboard that is protected against abuse (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) for the name filter, reports, the checks against cheating, blocking an install, limiting repeated requests and keeping a record of which Community Rules and Terms of Use an install accepted. You can withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future (see below). It does not affect the lawfulness of what happened before.
- Where: on our own server in Germany, hosted by Hetzner Online GmbH (Germany). We do not pass the data on to anyone else; it is visible as described above.
- How long: as long as you show your heroes. An entry that is not updated for 365 days is deleted automatically; an install ID without entries 30 days after its last request; reports after 90 days. A hardcore hero who dies stays on the board, marked as fallen. If we have blocked an install for abuse, we keep only its install ID, the hash of its key, the accepted rules version and the block until 365 days after its last request, also after a deletion request, so that the block cannot be lifted by deleting.
- Removing your heroes: Settings > GAME > DELETE MY LEADERBOARD DATA deletes all your heroes, your install ID, the reports you filed and the reports about your heroes from our server, and turns showing your heroes off. Turning off "Show my heroes on the leaderboard" does the same after you confirm it. Both happen at once when you are online; when you are offline, the next time the Application reaches our server. Deleting a character in the game also deletes its entry (when you are offline, the next time the Application reaches our server). You can also email support@demonfork.io with your hero names as shown on the leaderboard, for example if you uninstalled the Application before deleting your leaderboard data.
